The Louvre

We all had a bit of a sleep in this morning before going down for breakfast at the hotel.  The breakfast room was extremely busy, and they served the tea and coffee in proper crockery.

After breakfast we started walking towards the Catacombs of Paris, but decided we didn't really have the time to go there and tour them as we were to meet for our tour of the Louvre at 12.45.

This is what the workings of the toilette looks like.

At 1.15 it was time to meet up for our tour of the Louvre.   Our guide was Amalie, and she was very knowledgable about the works of art she took us too.   She told me that it would take three months to see all the artworks in the louvre, and I can well believe that!

Originally the Louvre was a fortress for the city of Paris, then became a palace.

It was very busy today, but Amalie told us it is sometimes even busier.   We passed through security In à few short minutes, as we were leaving the queue was longer.

The Goddess Aphrodite, otherwise know as Venus de Milo.   She came from the Greek Island of Milos.

  1. The Aphrodite of Milos was discovered on 8 April 1820 by a peasant named Yorgos Kentrotas, inside a buried niche within the ancient city ruins of Milos, the current village of Tripiti, on the island of Milos (also Melos, or Milo) in the Aegean, which was then a part of the Ottoman Empire.

This, would you believe, is the Mona Lisa!    This is about as close as I got, I was not wiling to get into that fray.  Selfie sticks are not permitted in the Louvre,  our guide had already chastised one man for using one.  Tourists taking  photos are incredible !   It's hard to even see some of the works for the crowds milling around.

After our tour we were left with a little free time to continue in the museum if we wanted to, but the crowds were taking their toll on us all, so  we headed off to the shops and  cold drink area, where we were to meet Amalie and go back to our coach.
The coach parking area under the Louvre holds a hundred vehicles, it is just mammoth.

This evening I enjoyed a leisurely night at home, whilst the others enjoyed dinner and a show at the Lido, another optional excursion with Avalon.  They all enjoyed it, but I enjoyed my evening more:)
