Saturday and Versailles

This week we have walked a total of 64.19 kilometers , and climbed the equivalent of 118 floors.
Any wonder our bodies were exhausted today when we arrived home from Versailles.
We set off at 9.30 this morning, catching g the train at out locals station, and  changing at
To get to our destination of the chateaux of Versailles.    Us and thousands others!   The train dropped us at a station that involved a 20 minute walk, and by the time we arrived to join the queue, it was long !!!

After being in the queue for half an hour, a toilette stop was in order so Kath and I headed to a different part of the building where we discovered we should be buying our tickets, as waiting in the queue was simple for entering the palace.   The very nice girl informed us it would be better to see the gardens and Marie-Antoinettes palace first, and then come back for the main palace, when it should be less busy.

So off to the gardens we went, they are truly magnificent.  It's hard to imagine living in that manner.
We found a nice restaurant in the gardens to have lunch at, at continued on to visit the Grand Trianon and the Petit Trianon.

Marie - Antoinette and her boudoir.  It's sad to think her being beheaded, but she wasn't the only one here in France to meet that fate.  These two villas are lovely, very light and airy, and decorated in soft colors, not the heavy and rich reds that lots of royal palaces are.

Whilst K and K toured the Palace, TRO and I enjoyed some rest in the coffee shop.  We had done the tour about 18 months ago, so did not feel the need to battle the crowds again.

A very straightforward trip home on the trains again, we are getting very proficient at using the public transport here.

We haven't noticed too many overweight folk here, and it's just as well, they might be precluded from using the Metro.

  1. Gotta love those barriers, getting through with my suitcase was quite a challenge before I fought my way onto the train! Well done you, the metro terrified me!
