Big day in Paris

18156 steps is equivalent to 12.73 kilometers ........that is how far we walked today, and we used the buses as well.   Hearty congratulations are in order to us for managing the public transport system here, especially at night and  whilst exhausted!  What a great achievement!   We are all surprised at how close to the River Seine we are, only about ten minutes by bus, with a very short walk to the stop.

This morning we set off walking to the Galleries LaFayette, a large shopping centre nearby.   We managed to buy out transport tickets without too much trouble.  They will allow us to use the trains, the metro and the buses, so they are very convenient.

We hit the shops with great gusto, TRO buying a pair of pants that then needed a tailor to alter them.  Having accomplished this, we set off back home, leaving K and K for further shopping.

After a few hours at home, we set off together again on the bus to the George Pompidou Centre.  This would have to be the ugliest building I have ever seen!  All the facilities are on the outside of it.  It houses the modern art museum, so we paid the entrance fee and enjoyed some of the art.  It's a very hot building because there is a lot of glass.

This is part of a display of marbles making up a world map.

Once we had completed the centre, we set off back to the river in time for our pre  booked river cruise of the Seine.  The sun was setting as we set off, and by the time we had cruised up to the Eiffel Tower and back the other way, it was quite dark.

There were lots of people along the river, enjoying the banks and the man made beach.  There were even free dancing classes.  We had a great commentary in both French and English, and learned many things about Paris we had not known before.

Off the cruise boat, and a little more walking to find the bus stop to catch the 39 home again.   We were tired travelers, and literally fell into bed with aching bodies for a good nights sleep.
