Mandarines and a birthday

The mandarine tree at 5 James Street has been prolific this season, there are still around fifty fruit on the tree....

Here are a few I picked yesterday, to turn into this delicious Yoghurt and mandarine birthday cake.....

.......which we enjoyed at our outdoor picnic lunch celebration for No 2 son.

Firestar Rose

Firestar , the official rose of the CFA, and a gift for my birthday in 2010, has had almost 160 blooms this season.  The rose was created as a consequence of Black Saturday 2009.  It honours the lives lost, the many dedicated CFA members who were involved, and celebrates the regeneration of new life.  We are proud of our son in law, Troy, who fought on Black Saturday, and in many others fires and incidents.

Harvest from the garden

This morning we harvested a small number of apples, two peaches, and the most woeful crop of potatoes that I have ever seen. Even the Irish during the great potato famine could have done better we think. Luckily, we are not depending on this crop to see us through the winter months.

Steep learning curve

I am about to embark on learning how to blog from the iPad , in order to do so whilst we are overseas in July. I have plenty of time right now, due to recovering from an operation, and not being able to do as much as usual.
I have purchased a couple of apps, rejecting the free one that was not all that good, to help. So.......here goes !
