Up early

It's a little like living in Queensland here, the sun is up and hot by about 6.30am, so we get up early and head off early for our excursions before the temperature reaches its promised 38 or 39 degrees. Then we get home around 2ish for a late lunch, a siesta, and a swim in the pool.

The before dawn call to prayer is no longer waking us up, despite it being very loud. It's amazing how quickly you can get used to noises in the night. Ramadan has begun now, and our neighbor told me that there was drum beating in the street at 3 am this morning, but we did not hear that either.

Yesterday our excursion was to the ancient city of Ephesus . When we arrived it was already very hot, and we were greeted by around twenty tourist buses in the car park, not to mention the mini buses (as our car is classified,) taxis and private cars. We knew by the buses that there would be a lot of people there.

After Mark and Dan lining up for 20 minutes, we finally have our tickets, and proceed through the entrance gates. The tickets are for a once only admission, so there is no pass out for any reason.

It's quite amazing to be seeing the remains of what was once a thriving city, and even more so to be walking where Paul the apostle walked, whilst spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ.




There was a reenactment of some gladiator clashing, very hot for the actors in the sun, and displays of craftsmanship.





It's difficult to get photos without a thousand tourists in them, so I have bought a book about Ephesis as well as taking some snaps.

Lunch was simit, traditional turkish bread, and dinner dessert especially made by JJ and myself, enjoying some of the delicious, inexpensive fruit available here. One kilo cherries, one kilo nectarines, and one kilo peaches cost me 5 TL, about $2.50.
