Santorini and the Donkey ride.

Today we arrived at the island of Santorini, after tendering across to to the port, there are only two ways to ascend the cliffs, cable car or donkey.

We were not the early birds catching the worms,so there were long queues for both. We elected for the donkeys, a 25 minute wait.
At the top, an elderly Greek man was screaming at everyone in sight it seemed. We were put on the donkeys, they got a hit to get them going, and we were off!

WHAT A SCARY RIDE !!!!!!

Many, many donkeys making their way up the cobblestoned steps, and many making their way down, their saddles empty. Crazy, crazy tourists walking down in the midst, and donkey men walking behind those of us ascending, yelling at the donkeys to go faster.
The donkeys wander from one side of the steps to the other, coming perilously close to the stone edge, making you wonder if your legs will be crushed between them and the wall. Every so often they stop to draw breath, and make you wonder if they will continue, or if you will be stuck in the middle.
Lily and Liz rode together, Marek and JJ together, and Frank and I separately.
It was every man for himself, I can tell you. Behind us, the riders were screaming and laughing, and the donkeys all wore bells, so it was not a quiet ride.
This is the path the donkeys took . You can follow the zig zag path

Once we arrived at the top, this was the view we were rewarded with.

And Frank actually found a bar named after him:)
