Liz, Frank and I decided to check out Kusadasi, while the rest stayed home for a recreation day.
After hailing the dolma down, it went a round about way, but we finally arrived in the town. All around, on every hill you can see, are dwellings, seemingly mostly for the tourists. This place would put the Gold Coast to shame
Everywhere along the roads there are bazaars, selling mostly fruit, but other things as well, the inevitable cay, and lots of gozleme, which we like.
After reaching Kusadasi, we strolled through the town towards the harbour. This town is much more westernized than Istanbul, and the traders that engage you speak excellent English. One jewelry salesman told us he was there to help us spend our money. After showing me some rings, and me not spending my money,he told Frank I was "very difficult ".
Liz was searching out some pandora beads, and an hour later, we finally got out from that shop. A lovely man trained in gold and silver smithing spent quite some time helping us try on jewelry, plying us with apple tea, and telling us his whole history. He really was very nice, and his hand made
pieces were exquisite, but unfortunately a little out of Liz's price range. Sadly for me, and luckily for Frank, I don't wear a lot of jewelry.
We enjoyed lunch on the harbour, some more shopping in the bazaar, and made our way back to Duvutler just in time for another swim.
Happy first birthday to our lovely twin granddaughters, Zoe and Charlotte. We phoned to wish them a happy day.
Posted from the patio.
